Have recently looked on your website ,to my horror I can recognise that I too have been the victim of a Nigerian internet dating scam. I recently met a 46 year old man online who promised me the world, love, marriage, happy ever after, you name it. He was French, not American and not Nigerian. Three weeks in to this daily contact he said he had to go to Accra, Ghana on business. He told me he was a freelance civil engineer. After the first day there he told me his wallet had been stolen and he needed £300.00 to pay his workers. I refused. Then he kept asking me for T-Mobile phone top up vouchers, which foolishly I sent £50.00 in total. He then asked again for £220.00 to get a return flight home because his friend had already given him £2500 because he lost his wallet and he still did not have enough money?!!! I refused, thank god. The very worrying thing for me is that this man text me, phoned me and used his webcam to talk to me and his son was there. He sent me flowers, chocolates and a soft toy. Should I be suspicious I ask my self time and time again. He also told me that he had a 4 bed house with a swimming pool. I had the foresight to look up his address on "street map" and I found that the address was some semi detatched ***t hole in an urban street somewhere. I am more than happy to share this with anyone who has been a victim as I have, my message to those is "be very careful"

Gerald Daniels scammer on ChristianMingle
I have been the recent victim of a scam from a gentleman I met on ChristianMingle.com. I lost over $16K of savings and now would like to warn others of his actions and get his pictures posted so that other women will be warned to stay away from this man.
He is very clever and computer savvy. In addition, he may be working with someone posing as his daughter Giovanni Daniels, along with using other email addresses to trap other women.
He was recently reported on 8/6 to christianmingle so he is not only working on me but other women. Fortunately he has now been banned and they are currently aware of his activities.
I can give you more details of our relationship (and have documentation of our conversations) but this guy needs to be stopped!!!
When I spoke to Christianmingle Monday night the 29th they were symathetic and did tell me this guy had been banned as of 8/6 when a report came in as fraud. Fortunately the young man I spoke with last night Tuesday the 30th disclosed further information on Gerald Daniels - they had the gedanie email along with the 415 phone number and the San Bernardino address which is actually just an apartment building.

I have filed a police report, been in contact with the FBI, filed a IC3 Internet Fraud Report, FTC and WU to warn them as well.
I really believe he is Nigerian and working out of London and does not have a daughter named Gio who attends the University of Liverpool like he said.

When in Doubt... Check them Out!
Dating is a risky business. You are letting yourself become vulnerable and giving your heart away to someone else. Are they worth the risk? Is there a way to minimize that risk? Are you having any doubts or nagging suspicions? Is your intuition nudging you and telling you to be careful, something may not be right?
When in doubt, check them out!
There are many sites, that for a small fee, will help you check them out and make sure their stories are true.
Are they telling you they are single? Divorced? Have no criminal background? Why not make sure before you give your heart away? If you are going to invest time, energy and your feelings into someone why not make sure that someone is telling you the truth? of course we don't want to think they would lie. Of course we don't want to think we don't trust them enough and had them checked out. We may be afraid that if they find out, they will leave us.
Stop worrying about what they make think of you. If you were going to invest in a home, car, or anything else you would do your research. You would make sure you were not getting scammed or lied to. Do the same with your budding relationship before you jump in with both feet.
Internet dating has it's own challenges. People can claim anything and it may be hard for you to uncover the truth and you have to take them at their word. Sure, they say nice things and you feel a connection between you, but shouldn't you make sure they are who they say they are? Some internet romances may involve requests for money. How can you consider sending someone money but wont spend a small fee to find out if they are who they say they are? Look them up.

Thomas Mario Metwally Nigerian Scammer
Thank you for your site! I almost made the biggest mistake of my life. I met this guy on Yahoo messenger - Thomas Mario Metwally - 52 (said he was 49) who know for real - had a son - a CIVIL ENGINEER. He is in Lagos, Nigeria working on a construction contract. He is from Milan Italy, got a visa to the US for 5 years about to expire. Anyway, he was like the answer to my dreams, loving words, wanted to take care of me, had money, wanted to come to Canada, wanted me to help him invest his money, told me how he envisioned our wedding, that he wanted to take me to Paris, France for a honeymoon. I was hooked - totally blown away. He told me about his son and how his wife had died of breast cancer - he had been married 18 years etc.. He told me that on August 16th it was his son's Ben birthday and I shared how I always made birthdays special and ask what he was getting Ben for his birthday. He made it out that he had nothing planned and didn't know what Ben wanted. Why didn't I ask Ben? So we arranged to have Ben on line the next day so I could talk to him. Who knows who I was talking to. Anyway, Ben wanted a notebook computer. I thought it strange that if his father was wealthy why didn't he have one already, but I let it go, so I mentioned it to Thomas. He suggested we go have on it and that he could pay for the whole thing since he had invested all his money in the project and had very little spending money. So I sent him $500. And this is where it started. I had revealed all the bad relationships I had had, that I was independant and a business person, which I am. Which is why when he started telling me about the problem he was having financing the project, I started asking lots of questions. He didn't like this. I even raised the question of him being a scammer since I've heard of them happening and I had started to look things up on the net. I couldn't understand with a construction contract with the government that they would only give you 60% of the money up front and expect the contractor to finance the rest until the job was completed. I know here it is paid in progress payments as to completion, with 10% to 20% held back which is usually the markup. So I started asking questions again. Then he hit me up for $10,000. Well, my suspicions came up, I told him I didn't have the money which I don't, but he pleaded. When I finally said no and told him not to contact me again he said that it was okay, he found the money - he sold some properties and had found someone - a "mr. francis" to finance the rest. So I thought okay, maybe everything was okay. So I started talking to him again. Then 2 nights ago, he tells me "mr. francis" didn't come through, that now he need $15000.00. And to think I actually went to a friend - who trusts me- lied and got the money. It is beside me now, waiting to be wired.But someone, maybe God, was looking out for me because he made a mistake. To try and show how much he loved me he was going to send me a package, what was my address. I gave it to him. Anyway, the package never arrived. Then I found a note on my mail box (I live in an apartment) that a parcel had tried to be delivered but I wasn't home. Please call this number etc. I called and was told that the flowers had gone back to the florist and the delivery company would contact them to redeliver. All yesterday I didn't hear from them. So I called them this morning, and was told that apparently it was a fraud order. Well that got me thinking and nervous again. So I went on line and found this site. The stories are so similar and the guideline you give - where if you answer yes to any of these questions - well I answered yes to almost every one. These guys are good. They really know how to play you - I was only on the dating site for 3 days and he picked me up. I'm giving up dating sites.What I can't understand is how they get the documents to look so real. He sent me a picture of his passport, his american visa document and a copy of a Contract Award Certificate. How would the average person ever be able to tell that they're fake. So the name he used is Thomas Mario Metwally, cell # 234-812-7995227Now of course, if he isn't a scammer, I've lost the man of my dreams.

Another Day, Another Scam this time from Ghana
Watch out for a lady named Lawer Linda Mauwginuwua from Accra, Ghana. She promised me the world, broke my heart and took my money. Her photo is a 31 year old white woman who has blond hair and a voluptuous figure and smile. My guess is that the pirates in Ghana took her photo off the Internet and scammed me. I got several documents from her which appear to be fraudulent. She is extremely attractive and her messages were as sweet as they could be. She refuses to return emails now that she has my money. Please advise if there are any organizations that can help me recover my money and prosecute these pirates.

footnote - She never did anything to try to come be with me. She told me she had bought a ticket from KLM airlines. When I called them, thy had no record of her buying a ticket. It appears that the lady in the pictures is not real. My bet is that these pirates picked the picture off the Internet and she is not aware of her picture being used in a scam. A Reader's Dating Site Nightmare (not with a scammer)

I’ve just cancelled my membership to the dating sites I was using, and will never use them again after my free dating site experience lost me my job, and nearly my home. I wanted to tell my story, to try and warn others to be very careful and look for the dangers of people on these sites who have simply no intention of committing themself to a relationship.
I was on a free dating site back in April and met a man named Gareth, who had set up a very nice profile and stated himself as divorced. We got chatting and although he lived 125 miles away, we decided that we got on so well that we would meet up. Gareth said he would travel down to my home, and we had a wonderful weekend together. It was love at first sight, and when he went home Gareth said he was sure that I was the lady for him and that he wanted to live with me. I felt over the moon, and having spent years hearing about other people meeting their soul mates, couldn’t believe this was actually happening at last to me.
The following week though, I noticed that although Gareth had said that he wasn’t on Facebook, when I searched, his profile came up – with a photo of him with a blonde lady. In his list of friends, I also found a profile of the same blonde lady with a picture of him. When he called, I questioned him about it, and he said that this was just an old photo that he’d forgotten to change, and he hadn’t logged on to Facebook for ages. I was still puzzled that he wouldn’t accept my friend request, but because I had fallen so much for him chose to give him the benefit of the doubt. When I asked him if he was still in a relationship, he said that he had split up from this lady before Christmas, and although he was still in occasional touch, they were not an item an more and he lived at his mothers.
Gareth came down for two more long weekends, and we started to plan our new life together. The one thing that did bother me was that every time I got up to go out of the room, Gareth would quickly take his phone out of his pocket and start texting, and I also felt uneasy because he refused to tell any of his family or friends about me with the excuse that he wanted me ‘properly on the scene’ first. Every time I had any worries, Gareth would send me wonderful long emails telling me he was totally committed to me, to trust him and that he wanted to be with me more than anything else. He gave me a holiday for my birthday cruising round the Greek Islands which was scheduled for July, and I just couldn’t believe that I’d been given such a wonderful birthday present as this was the first time for me that I had ever been spoilt so much. Gareth then suggested that I put get my house valued and put it on the market, which I did – with the idea that I’d be moving into his house in Wales that his tenants had just vacated. Gareth had said to me that I would need to invest all of the £70k from the sale of my house into his property and go on a joint mortgage with him, and he arranged a mortgage in principle with the bank. I was very surprised when I got a cash buyer immediately, and called Gareth straight away to ask him if he was still sure about me selling. He said that he had never been more sure of anything and told me to accept the offer, which I did. At the end of May, after agreeing this with Gareth, I gave in my notice at work with the idea that I would then be able to go on the holiday in July, and move to Wales after that.
Then suddenly cracks began to appear, and this is where my trusting nature let me down. I went up to Wales for the weekend to see the house, and noticed that Gareth had become considerably anxious and on edge. I tried to put it down to pressure of his work, but he just wouldn’t relax, and for the first time I realised that me going up to Wales had suddenly made all that was happening very real for him. By the Sunday I was tearful, because something inside was telling me that there was something wrong, but Gareth wouldn’t discuss it.
The following morning I got up to eagerly read an email I’d got from Gareth, expecting his usual loving words, but instead it was just a one line email saying to cancel the house sale and that he was not going to pursue the relationship any further. I just froze to the spot, feeling absolutely sick. My hands were shaking so much with the shock I could hardly type a reply. It turned out that he had never really finished with his previous relationship and he had decided to stick with her as it was what he knew. He had basically just got cold feet and backed out. He even told me later that the holiday he was taking me on, he would now be taking his previous girlfriend instead. His cruelty was just unbelievable. It didn’t take much to work out that he must have gone straight round to her house after dropping me off at the station to see if she would take him back before he ditched me.
I paid a very high price for my trusting nature, and falling in love with a man with commitment phobia. I managed to get my house back as I cancelled the sale, but I couldn’t get my job back as they paid me in lieu of notice. I have now been left on benefits, desperately searching for work to try and pay my mortgage. My mother was forced to give me her life savings to help get my mortgage down to a reasonable level. Gareth not only destroyed me, but caused my family real hardship as well.
My word of warning to anyone using these dating sites is please, don’t rush into any big decisions until the other person shows some concrete commitment by their actions, and not by their words. I have lost almost everything due to trusting this man’s word, while he walked away unscathed and even made sure he had his old girlfriend’s bed to jump straight back into. Look for the warning signs, and if they don’t want you to meet their family or friends question it, and if they start declaring undying love at the first meeting, it’s probably not sincere. Above all, always question any sign that a previous relationship is still hanging around as ‘friends’.
