Scammer Scott McKay on Christianmingle

This is my nightmare story. I met what seemed to be a wonderful young man on christianmingle.com. It started out simple, a few e mails through that site, then started e mailing me personally. Then eventually chatted on line, regularly. His story was so real sounding, that he lived about 45 min from me and owned his own company. He had a website for his company, showed that he was the CEO. Everything seemed believable, we chatted a lot on line, talked about church, our kids and every day life. He called me on the phone (of course I did not write the number down) and spoke to me. June 10th, he was taking a trip to London for his company, was to be gone for 3 weeks. After there, we continued to e mail and chat regularly. He was very polite and sweet sounding. He sent lovely e mails that any girl or woman would love to read. He called me his sapphire. Then it wasn't long until he started calling me babe and other sweet names. Then I love yous started coming. I first told him how can you say that you love me when you have not met me. He said he had been praying for a special person in his life and that he knew I was the one. I fell for every bit of it, all because it started from christianmingle.com. It ended after me losing lots of money, I am ashamed to say how much. I just can not believe that I fell for it, after all of the stories I have heard from shows on tv about this.
He claimed to be from IL and that he had a daughter (Kimberly) in college in Italy. He had a sister (Nelly) who lived in Italy as well, who was married and had 3 boys. His name was Scott McKay and was to be born in Merret, Georgia. His e mail address was scott2mckay@yahoo.com, work address was mscott@migacorps.net His daughter's e mail address mckimkay@yahoo.com His sister's e mail nellykay96@hotmail.com They probably all went to the same person. The final straw was that he collasped and had to have emergency surgery and the hospital in London was demanding payment for the surgery. I told his friend who was Nigerian (according to Scott) that I knew that medical care was free in the United Kingdom. His answer was yes for a public hospital, this is a private hospital. I contacted the US Embasy in London and the lady said there is no hospital by that name and the phone number that I was given was a cell number. He did not get any more money, but I am sure he working on the next victim now.
He is probably Nigerian that did not sound Nigerian on the phone, had more of a spanish-european accent. There was a family that used to go to our church that was from Nigeria. His accent was nothing like theirs. I since have had a phone call where they I was threatened to be put on a black list. He pronounced my last name correctly and had the last 4 numbers of my social security number. I will live past this, but it will be very hard and difficult for a long time, because I sent money to him instead of paying my regular bills. I also took out 2 loans for that idiot, believing that he was buying plane tickets and could not be renewed when he tried to use them. He e mailed me copies of the boarding passes and pictures of him doing different things, one at a beach with scuba equipment and one in a church playing the saxaphone. He was a very nice looking man, making it even easier to believe what he was saying to me. I have saved all of the emails and pictures although it probably will be useless to do, but perhaps it will save someone else from their scam.

  4. Hi in your post you mention the accent was Spanish/European.Could it have been a Dutch accent? There are a lot of Nigerian Scammers coming from Holland and France who will impress you with fake promises and who do not sound Nigerian at all.I wonder if your scammer just tried to scam me!

  5. I have phone numbers and everything from this man as he tried his best to scam me but thankfully, I didn't fall for it! Wow, I knew he was a scammer when he started asking for money as he couldnt get to his bank because he was out in the ocean in the uk on an oil expedition...what a joke! I learned all about his "daughter" and everything too. He also called me his sapphire and told me to pick out engagement rings.. I never erased phone numbers or anything thinking they might come in handy.

  6. Wow. I just saved my mom today.
Let me introduce you to "John Ross" from Azle, TX. Entreprenuer raising his 16 year old grandson after losing his, wife to cancer and before that, his son and daughter-in-law in a vehicle accident. He wanted to start a jewelry store for his retirement years. He said he was 60. He started out with emails wanting to know my mom a new widow and I know she was lonely.

Soon he would send her poems and prayers. Honey and all his lovey names. She was what he wanted. He sent pictures of himself with a freaking puppy for God's sake. They made a 'date' for a Sunday afternoon, "after church of course"...to meet and have coffee.
Oh no. Business suddenly came up and he had to go to ~cough~ Africa to the gold mines to buy his gold.
Oh no. He is there and a computer cafe blew his computer.
Oh no, everything was lost, he is desperate for a new computer.
She finally agreed to send a computer but not money. ~insert eye roll~
Let me say thank you Staples!!! She made the purchase but they would not ship internationally. So she had the computer shipped to her home.
That is when I got wind of all this. The texts from John Ross, (really? How about John Doe?) were mispelled and obviously foreign and at odd hours. Phone calls with caller ID were obviously international with one from Seattle. His profile disappeared.
I sent her to her bank immediately and all her accounts are secure and marked for fraud alert. New cards were issued and she was told do not use them as credit cards only as debits.
When the computer arrives thank goodness she can return it and was not out any funds.
But he just called her tonight!!! She told him she had a surprise, that she had gotten the computer early and it was already on it's way to him. Oh he was so genuinely surprised and happy, and of course immediately wanted the tracking info. She said, "Oh my goodness, I'll have to look it up, I just walked in the door." Now he is going to call again.
NOW she is seeing the picture. I asked her Ma, did he ever once say your name? She thought and realized how odd, he never said her name once, just all his cutesy names.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE. I HAVE NOT READ ANYTHING REDEEMING ABOUT IT.
So sorry for the folks that are buying this crap. I'll keep you posted!!!!

  7. This is not strictly a christianmingle issue. I have not yet joined the site, but am considering it. I have been on match and on pleanty of fish. This is a general problem for all dating sites. I have had many many scam artists approach me on these sites. They are very easy to spot if you use common sense and keep your eyes open. This is not a male dominated issue either. There are many women that are scam artists as well. I have made friends on these sites and we compare notes about the crazy people here (and our dating HORROR STORIES). It can be quite entertaining once you've discovered the scammers to toy with them, and keep them distracted from their next target. Once you tire of tormenting them, report them to the site, and they will usually delete their profile. This does not prevent them from opening a new account under a different alias, but it does slow them down and they lose contact with their current marks.
The trick is to weed through all the losers to find the real people who are on here for the exact same reason you are. Once you do, you will surely have some interesting stories to talk about. And lets face it, who is to say that you are not a scam artist yourself. How can you expect the dating site to know the actual intensions if any of it's members if they dont know yours.
My advice, never give money to anyone! Would you do that for someone you met in person at the grocery store?? NO!!!
Don't waste time with someone on the net or by phone. If you have any interest, meet them early in a very public place - in broad daylight. I suggest lunch or coffee. If there is, or is not chemistry you will know pretty quickly. You can read much more about a person from their expressions and body language than on the phone or the net.
I suggest you stay away from parks as they changes from public to secluded very easily. Voice of experience, I now carry mace. Everything was fine, but I felt very vulnerable and almost trapped. Save that for once you've gotten to know them and they've earned your trust.
FYI - I did meet my husband of 20 yrs on a dating site, the eharmony type that actually matches your interests and characteristics. Although we grew apart it was a good match. We are still very good friends. He has in turn met his new wife on christian mingle and I very much approve. lol

  8. My story has bits and pieces similar to all the above stories. I am embarassed and ashamed to have given away all my money for what I thought was christian love. He quoted bible verses, and stated I was his true love. soulmates. He used someone elses picture which I figured out the real name of by using google pictures. I will never trust another man claiming to be christian and a widown.

  9. I see the last post here (above mine) is from last October - I just wanted to make everyone aware that some scammers are taking it to a new level by actually using Skpe to aid in convincing their victims that they are who they say they are.... Suffice it to say there are attractive people out there running romance scams. It happened to my son... DON'T SEND MONEY PERIOD!

I would like to expose a scammer who has put himself here on face book. He is a romance scammer. Women beware!!! I have found 3 separate face book profiles of him. He goes by the name Nicholas Wells. One such face book profile states that he is from Colorado. Another states that he is from Orlando Florida and lastly from Whittier California. This is the same person. His scam is that he will tell you he is a petroleum gas Engineer (contractor). He will cry he needs money to meet his crude oil contract in Edinburgh Scotland. He will tell you he has mortgaged his home and all his funds are tied into this contract. He will tell you he is short of money and can you please help. He will ask you to wire money via money gram. He will ask you to wire money to accounts. He will ask you for personal account information, (for the purpose of having money transferred to your account to send on to him). Claiming he can’t access his own accounts because he has loans he is way over do on and doesn’t want this money frozen or taken from him. He will claim to be a widower and state that his late wife (Barbara) and daughter (Ashley) were in auto accident and died. He will claim to have one living elder daughter, Christine who resides in London UK. He is very skilled in his scamming Techniques. HE will claim to be on the verge of suicide and actually have people call or contact you and tell you that he attempted to hang himself due to the fact that he has lost everything that was tied into this business deal. He will stop at nothing to gain sympathy, and your money. He will claim he has no friends or family other than his only surviving daughter Christine. He will go on to tell you that he is living in the streets, and spending nights in a local pub to get off the streets at night. He will tell you that the bar owner took pity on him and is trying to help him get his certificate of clearance so that he can get back to the states. He speaks with a Nordic accent, yet claims to be born and raised in Colorado. Currently stranded in Edinburgh Scotland.
I have recently found out who the pictures really belong to. They belong to Alex Pinto. Each photo on Alex Pinto’s face book page has been emailed and sent to my cell phone. I was scammed.
I met “Nicholas Wells” on Christian Mingle on or about late March. I had NEVER been exposed to a Romance Scammer and I got one HELL of an education. One that I will never forget. “Nicholas Wells” continues to have 2 separate face book pages posted. He is still active and continues to have interaction with other women, despite the fact that I have reported him.
If you have any questions or need more information. Please feel free to contact me.

    1. So I have recently been contacted by a man who claims to be Alexander Jose Pinto whose Christian Mingle moniker is kingsneedqueen101. Claims to be a widower for five years whose wife and son, Jason, were killed in a car accident. Claims to be an international crude and petroleum trader. His profile has been removed from Christian Mingle today and when i asked about it today his response was "I don't need to have my profile on there anymore". Let me know your thoughts. queen58.sm@gmail.com

  14. OM! Your story is so similar to mine! His name was Mark Howard! He was so believable and totally ruined my credit! Some how Christian Mingle needs to be able to run backgrounds on individuals to make their site 100% Christian! Never again! I have remarried to someone that I knew years ago and am happier than ever, but that whole ordeal w/Mark Howard caused a big strain on our relationship due to money! I still can not believe I fell for it, but he was very convincing! It can happen to you!

  15. Mark Howard has now wound up on POF. I have been talking with him for about a week now and thought something was off from the very beginning. I may play along for a little longer just to mess with whoever is on the other end. LOL

  16. Now is a good time to stop wasting your time and to start living your life. I'm a man on CM but I would NEVER, NOT EVER waste my time w/ someone who is an obvious fraud/ scam artist. I occ get msgs that are removed by the CM ppl because of complaints, acc to them. CM is full of cranks, frauds, con artist men etc. You can tell bcse a lot of them can't even put two sentences together. Or they don't have a pic, etc etc. But as anyone w/ a brain knows, most middle class pp, are both arrogant as well as ignorant, so keep giving the scam artists money.

  17. Watch out for a guy calling himself Brian Demaster, or Bryan Demaster from Oostburg, WI, claimed to be Catholic and is very knowledgable about the Bible and faith but he is anything but a Christian. He claims to have a daughter, is a civil engineer and lives in Wisconsin but works around the world. We didn't get to the point of him asking for money but about 3 days after talking off the Christian Mingle site he started sending love letters. Who does that after know someone a few weeks? Too bad we can't post photos here because I'm sure he reuses them on different sites.

  20. This same Mark Howard has a Kik account under truelove113. Chats with whenever he ask for money. When I say, he stops for like two or three months and ask me again. He already scammed me out of 30 grands and was planning to adopt two Liberian children in Ghana or Nigeria. I have two different pictures of him. I want to post them here to show you what he may or may not look like. Says he is from Bentonville, Arkansas and now owns a jewelry store i

  21. To continue this comment... Mark says he owns a jewelry store in Orlando, Florida. He tells me he has a son name Paul Love Howard. Named his two future adopted children under the last name Love in Nigeria. The scamming lasted between 2012-2013.

  22. Yeah Mark Howard is at it again on POF. I started responding back to him and sure enough he didn't really want to date right away, he wanted to take it slow. His wife was deceased he's only been in the country for ten years and he was from Italy blah blah blah. Next thing I know he wants me to buy him a phone for his birthday which is August 15. however he said his sign was Cancer on POF. I didn't fall for that and kind of called him out on it next thing I know he's been telling me that he has some cocoa beans that he purchased for over ten million dollars in Africa and they're being held up from coming over to the United States. He wants me to write a letter to the person over there who supposedly holding them and ask them to release them. I didn't do that either. A few days later he's telling me that he has to go to Africa to get the beans released by the government and will be gone for a few days. After he amazingly ends up there within 12 hours, he has somehow burn out his PC by charging it incorrectly and now he needs me to go buy him one and send it to him. I sent him an article that I found about scammers from Ghana which just happened to be where he was located at that moment supposedly. Luckily I never gave him any of my personal information like my social security number or any account numbers but unfortunately I had given him my address. He did send me a dozen gorgeous roses with some nice chocolates, which just happened to arrive just before he asked me to buy the PC for him . I hope to God I'm not going to live to regret having given him my address. It would be interesting to know if he lives at the address that he told me he did in Columbus Ohio. Anyway I'm blocking him and that will be the end of it-I hope!!!

  23. Mark Howard is still on POF...I was dumb enough to play along for about 3 weeks, when he suddenly had to go to Ghana for business...he needed me to send him a $2,000 laptop since his was fried by using the wrong voltage charger. Earlier that day he had sent me roses and a very expensive box of chocolates. Previously he had asked me to buy him a phone for his birthday, which I refused to to. He "forgave me" for my lack of trust and continued communicating until the Ghana stuff. I sent him an article about scams from Ghana, and he tried to convince me whoever gave me the article was jealous. Luckily, I didn't send him anything, and I turned him into POF who removed his profile. I'm sure he'll be back under a new name and new photos, but I know now what to look for on these sites. SMH
