One smart lady who didn't get scammed

Sometimes you can outscam the scammers, if you know what to look for, like this sharp lady did. Good thing she was so on her toes!

This past July 12th, I received the most beautiful e-mail on the dating site SeniorPeopleMeet from a man calling himself Thomas Park. He said that I was an angel on earth and if I didn't reply to his "humble" e-mail that he would understand. Why should I respond to someone such as he. . . His picture was gorgeous--dark hair with piercing blue eyes and an oh so sexy smile. He asked me to e-mail him at Thomas Park212@yahoo.com.

We e-mailed back and forth for about four or five days. His language was over the top romantic baloney. I was a little bit suspicious but a couple of my friends who had dated Latin men (he claims to have been raised by an aunt in Madrid) said this is the way they express themselves.

This is his story--in case any of you out there fall prey to this man:
Thomas Park was born in Texas and at the age of four his parents died in a fatal car crash. He was raised with his cousins by an aunt and uncle in Madrid. He holds a master's degree in business technology from Oxford.
He moved to the United States twenty-two years ago because his wife was American. She died in childbirth eight years ago, along with the child.

Thomas said he worked for the Huron Consulting Group in Chicago IL as an information technology consultant. He says has no friends--just co-workers. They operate in different worlds (yeah right!) So he spends holidays in Paris or Hawaii or he travels to Madrid quite frequently to visit his aunt.
His best friend is God and he said our relationship would progress in God's timing. He has no trouble finding women but he wants a woman of quality and said that I was his choice.

I finally asked him to phone me as I the number he gave me always went to voice mail. He did call but we spoke only briefly as the phone was constantly "breaking up." His heavy accent gave him away--he is NO Oxford man!! I could barely understand his broken English. Well, his e-mails intensified after that call (as mine pulled back and cooled down) and I became alarmed so I contacted my local police. They advised me to break it off (nicely) with this guy and I tried to do so. I didn't like hearing "we will be together forever" after one week of e-mailing!!

Well, after he asked me for money, I told him the jig was up and he replied by calling me a player and a liar. I haven't heard from him since. Let's hope it stays that way!

  1. Here's a message from 'lavaman62" that came to my personal email account, ostensibly from mborroughs@yahoo.com. Until I received this in PINK type, he seemed pretty normal and intelligent.

  2. This same one just contacted me and said the same EXACT thing!!!!!!! I'm so tired of these guys trying to scam us! I'm beginning to think that it's better to be alone. I "met" him on the SENIORPeopleMeet.com site and he used the profile: "Mike Burrows" Ladies, be forewarned!

  3. I think that the same one contacted me, his parents died, no siblings, his wife and son died in a car accident; he is christian and names God for everything, his parents were Irish, he was born in Berlin; the second day he was ready to relocate and marry me; he is an engineer and work for himself on projects that last 3 weeks around the world, he just asked for $2,750.00 and he will pay me back....Sure baby!!! He wrote this to me yesterday
Thank you for being there for me when I need someone. I love you more and more every minute.

I know I can't give you the whole world, but I can promise you I will always love you. My heart is yours, and even though I know I’ll make mistakes, I will never break your heart. I’ll be right beside you as we chase our dreams together, and you will never have to wonder if I still care. I think about you all day long and when i don't hear from you my mind is consumed with thoughts of being close to you again. When i hear from you and write to you I feel like everything in the world is right, and I know I don't have to ask God for anything because as long I have you in my life I have everything I could ever want. All I want to do is spend the rest of my life making you as happy as you have made me.

    Michael.

  4. Interesting, I met a man who said his name was Michael Nicholson. He wrote a lovely email about life and how his parents had passed and his brother int he war and he loved to make cookies and his new venture was making cheese. He said his mother was Italian american but the pictures he sent he looked middle eastern and his accent was very heavy for someone that lived in the US. He said he was a structural engineer and he worked abroad most of the time. The day before we were supposed to meet he all of a sudden had to go to Nigeria because the house his mother had set up for wayward kids had blown up. AFter he gets to Africa I get a text that he was attacked and in the hospital and that the bandits had taken all his belongings, wallet, credit cards etc. It all seemed too fake because he was quick with the compliments and going to Nigeria etc. as soon as he mentioned that all his stuff was stolen I waited for him to write that he needed money and sure enough he asked for money. When I accused him of being a scammer he was upset and said that this was the worse day of his life blah, blah, blah. I'm still communicating because I want to see just how far he goes. Today he wrote and said in order for his bank to send money he would have to pay a transfer fee and some other fee of $800 not to mention his plane ticket was $1500. What am I do to? he wrote, I said call the embassy and hung up! What an ass.

  5. This site is definitely a rip off...I have even gone so far as to request a refund but good luck on that, huh? Just a site for users and players. I joined on impulse and have regretted it ever since. Please don't make the same mistake I did...you could get the same promises this site offers for "free". Spread the word...innocent people are falling for this crap every day and this site's promises are not kept. Post your comments everywhere until someone checks into this scam. Seniorpeoplemeet=garbage. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish i had used my money elsewhere. Help !!!

  6. My friend was scammed by a Sam Neil who gave the same story about his parents dying when he was just 12 and then his wife died when their daughter was just 12 and he owns his own company in Arlington, VA but his writing was atrocious. Yes my friend shared his emails with 2 of us and we could not believe the guy was a supposed engineer!! He was utterly illiterate and his supposed daugher has emailed from "NIGERIA" for money from my friend. Nigerian scammer is Sam Neil (s.neil1950@gmail.com) so ladies beware!!!! He and his daugher Sandra are both illiterate Nigerians trying to make a fast buck!!!

    ReplyDelete
  7. Please please please do not send any money to this man claiming to be Sam Neil (s.neil1950@gmail.com or s.neil1950@yahoo.com). My mother was scammed by him for alot of money. Everything about this person is fake!!!! He is scamming people from Lagos,Nigeria. This guy has made more money in 5 weeks than I do in a year and that was only off of my mother. The American hard earned money is supporting these illiterate idiots in Nigeria. The Nigerian government is fully well aware of what is going on however they won't do anything about it because our money is supporting their slimy third world country. Please believe everything you have read on this website about Sam Neil, it is all true. He is a scumbag. Remember though he comes up under numerous alias'. The only thing that I know is one day he will be judged by God and that will be like music to my ears!!! Good luck to all these poor victims of Sam Neil. Let's be smarter that these idiots in Nigeria and keep our money in America.

  8. Do not use SeniorPeopleMeet.com ever!!! The scammers of the world are lurking around in there. Sam Neil is one of the biggest scammers in there. What I can't understand is why people keep sending him money. Tell everyone to stop giving SeniorPeopleMeet money. This is a horrible website!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. 90% say they are Engineers.....what can we do to get the OWNERS of these CALL CENTERS closed down? l realize they have put a lot of people to work, but its just not right to scam others.
Manuel O, Rodham Geoffery, Sam Neil, Erin Coleman, and a LOT more...are ID's used with pictures that were stolen and in many cases Visa card numbers stolen....items will be sent to you if dumb enough to give out address or last name so they can find it on the net unbeknown to you....then items arrive they want YOU to sent to them in Africa usually. They promise to reimburse. Seems Insurance Pays for the Losses, so they (the Owners of these CALL CENTERS) get away with stealing too. Something MUST be done. l think the Owners/Proviteers should be jailed, not the poor slobs trying to make a living.

  10. I was contacted by an attractive, local man who said his name was Drew. Claimed he was from Philadelphia and head of a charter school there. We exchanged a number of e-mails. He never asked for money. I really liked this guy. Then he just disappeared. When I tried to access his profile through his previous e-mails to me, it said this person no longer has an active membership. Anybody else contacted by such a person?

  11. Seems it never ends. I have reported so many of these men to the site. I think they are like cockroaches, kill one and more take their place. For me, I think I'm done with online dating because you cannot believe who you are talking to.

  12. My question is Ladies : WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU EVER EVER SEND MONEY TO MEN YOU HAVE NEVER MET? If a man sends a looong winded email about how he stumbled across your profile and your his "Angel" Would a light bulb go off to say this man is full of crap? Come on we are all on this site tring to find Love! But Girls, wake up. If something seems too good to be true, IT 9 out of 10 times IS! Never ever send any one money! Rule # 1 ladies, whats mine is mins!! Wake up and smell the COFFE or in this case the SCAMERS!!

  13. Yep...I got three emails into excitment and then reality struck. My son who has a internet security business wised me up: enthusiastic opening, got my email address in Senior People and started to warm me up. The tips were...getting my email, bad spelling, poor writing and the time the emails were sent. But with out my son it would have gone on longer. We women need to wise up.

  14. I've actually enjoyed SeniorPeopleMeet.com. There are scammers everywhere.. on every dating site. You just have to be aware.

Another piece of advice if you're going to date online.. don't get your hopes up too soon.. or give your heart too soon. Getting to know someone takes a lot of time.. in real life!

The people that get into trouble, are the ones that get desperate.. jump into things .. too spontaneous (without first checking).. and way too naive!

Always, ALWAYS.. have your friends check out the emails, etc. They are a good barometer and can be unemotional for you. Another guy friend/relative would be ideal. And ALWAYS, ALWAYS do a background check on anyone BEFORE you agree to meet them. This isn't a perfect system.. but, it helps.

Dating online is a numbers game. But, you MUST do the weeding out part.. intelligently.

    Best to you.

  15. My husband was on Senior People Meet and other sites. I found out when these sites came up on my computer (not his e-mails to ladies) When I started checking into the sites I found his profile and picture on these sites looking for elderly women. When I confronted him he said these women are lonely and would appreciate a man like him. After being shocked that my husband of 25 years would have had done such a thing/cheating on me and then had the mentality of looking at elderly women this way I filed for divorce. Also he was looking for their money. Women anywhere in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and New York (especially Key West) stay away from a man by the name of Drew Smith from New Jersey who claims to be a retirned Law Enforcment Officer and lives in Barnegat NJ. He is a womanizer and just want your money.

  16. i meet DUDE030 on seniorpeoplemeet.com. he said he wasn't on the site that much, and asked that i communicate with him on his gmail account. i never fully read about the pitfalls of internet dating...rule #1 - never give them your personal email address. rule #2 if they say they are widowed and an engineer - another big red flag. rule #3 - if they say their parents died in a car crash when he was young, another red flag. if they immediately get off the senior web site - another red flag. when you start getting long winded emails about 'being the one' after only a few short emails...scammer in starting to pray like a lion. he promised to move me to atlanta, where i could pick out the house, how much fun we would have sitting in front of the fire place; sleeping together every night with him listening to my heart beat. daughter in college. his email is e.shields1950@gmail.com. edward shields, is not an engineer from atlanta georgia. after researching his email address, i found out that his web name was located in turkey; and that he was 27. after i wrote to him about the scam, he asked when could i come to atlanta so we could talk it out like adults. i told him to wire me $500 via western union. never heard from him again, thank god~

  22. I have been on a couple of different websites besides seniorpeoplemeet and the scammers are on all of them. At least senior people has a warning how to notice them. It's usually the same pattern, they're in love with you immediately, "you're the most gorgeous" woman, the english is bad, they want your email right away. Move on, there are normal people. Report the scammers and you will see they're gone from the site. Also beware of same profile with different photo, I've seen that too.

  23. Beware of a guy who said his email was ambitiousdave21@yahoo.com. Did not want to correspond on the Seniorpeople site, only wanted an email. Profile said he was a widower, 57 years old, lived with one child. I was 6 years older but he said in the profile, only maturity mattered, and distance didn't matter, either. He said he lived in Greensboro, Georgia.Quite a distance!! He only wanted me to send him the email, if I was interested in this being a probable LTR. I checked on a well known reverse look up site, and couldn't find his email listed. Atleast not without buying a membership. I didn't reply to his email, and within a day, his information disappeared from Seniorpeoplemeet. So glad I used caution!!

  24. This is from a mans point of veiw! Ladies i have met five at least six different lady's who turned out to be the nicest kindest women one could hope for. But i also had ten from Nigeria-Russia-and South Africa contact me on my Yahoo acct?? they always start by saying Hi my name is ( you fill in the blanks) and they proceed by writting in a broken English how they were abandoned at an early age, orphaned in there teens, raised by cruel aunts or uncles. There is not enough food to eat or money for rent??
I am told this in the first two minutes of emailing? By the second email they are in love with me and want to marry and have my children.

Then i wait to seee how much they ask for? can range from $200 to $2,500 depending on there ability to read you as to how stupid they think i am.L O L.

As soon as they ask for the money i tell them i was hoping they would loan me some money so i could go to them and help out with there plight.

Once they realize you are on to them they well either plead with me for the love of almighty god please help out because the authorities are closing in on them for non payment of rent and they are facing years behind bars.

Ladies just remember these are women trying to scam me, so if a man tells you he loves you and has never met you? beware. If a man asks you for money beware, if a man asks you for your personal email and you don't know him beware, and above all else take what us men tell you with a grain of salt, us that are for real well never ask you personal questions or try and set up a date in secluded hide aways and we are able to meet our money situations with out your money.

Hope these tips save some of you from real heart aches.

  27. Well this Bill Adams used three Nigerian scammer tricks to get money so it is very safe to say he is a scammer. How much more info do you need? No Dr would contact you from Nigeria or anywhere else and send medical info etc, nor would they ask for payment. No such thing, would never happen, EVER.

Wife died in automobile accident, has one daughter 15 who lives with his mother in France..He has a french accent and sounds so much younger than his picture, which by the way is a very handsome man..I feel so sorry for these people that they steal their identity from. Also he sent me a pic of his fake daughter. I was onto him from day 1 when he gave me his password to look up his profile on Seniormeet cause I couldnt find it on my own..He fell in love immidiately and we were destined to be together..He couldnt SKYPE because it may give his computer a virus, he couldnt Webcam because it was broken on his computer..I requested a picture taken on his cell phone and email it to me, but he just sent me the same pictures from profile...so many red flags, too funny..I knew and was just waiting for his tradgedy to strike...please ladies nobody falls in love in 3 days..He asked me to go off the site since we met and fell in love...just all such bull.... anyway his tragedy was that the truck that was bringing him all his building supplies got into an accident on way to him and killed someone (I even got a pic of accident, OMG so funny and fake) how he would think anyone would believe it..so he needed $498 dollars to get his supplies out from the police station..now this man supposedly pays rent in Orlando while he is in the UK and rent in the UK, cares for his mothers illness and daughter and is well off, but needs 498 from me, too funny..and yada yada, yada...i went along with him as to so far as telling him I would give him the money, made believe i went to Western Union and when I told him I emailed him the info to pick up the money, well, need I say more about the letter that was there instead from me??? These men are so stupid, lets not be stupid along with them. ladies please dont fall for these idiots...it is so obvious and you shouldnt give anyone your hard earned money, especially someone you dont even know...This is so bad that they try and hurt womens feelings etc, I just want you to know about this creep...I am sure he has changed names and email by now, but just beware of the similarities...good luck ladies.

  30. Ladies, any man that tells you he loves you in 2 days and then request money from you is a scammer. The scammer I am talking to does not know that I am unto him. I was after the second email. What a fool. Geroge Micheals from Toronto but also resides in the UK. The stories are all the same. He has already had a disaster but has not asked for money yet. I told him as a international business man, he requires millions of dollars in insurance on his foreign work sites and that I was happy that his insurance would cover all his expenses. Being a business woman, he will have a hard time scamming me. I haven't heard from him in 3 days. I am sure the next email will be yet another disaster. Beware ladies

  33. Hello All,

The one who tried to get to me was Shawn Mills. Shawnmills54@yahoo.com. He was intense and told a slower version of all the stories listed here. He was an architech working in Georgia. Gave an address that didnt exist. After we started talking he needed to go to Dubai for a great opportunity to show his work. I asked to see something he'd drawn. For locations of his buildings. There never were any. Once I started to back off, he gave the hot pursuit full court press. I received flowers, chocolates and a teddy bear, then a basket of coffee flavored chocolates and then a $500 necklace. All the while he was asking me for money because he'd been attacked while in Dubai. They got all his money but not is phone or passport? Yeah right. I suggested the Employer that brought him there and the embassy. I was finally rid of him after I accused him outright of being a scammer. He was indignant and then disappeared. I have received more than a few other odd emails since then likely connected to the time spent talking with him. The really interesting thing was the profile picture on the website Overfifties.com. After I blew him off I watched his photo on the same profile change 7 times in one month and all the photos were of different men. When I searched the name of the owner of the website I found a news article from the Washington Post in the UK about a man named Mark Hatton who had done jail time for bilking a woman there out of $600.000.00 under the geise of love. Play you private info close to the vest ladies and once even a hint of need for money is expressed shut it down!

He mentioned the ts2 phone line, yes, it did cost money "but it's unlimited". and when I said no, not paying to talk to you, I got "am I not important to you?" And then came the: open a bank account so I can transfer my assets to you. My parents are dead, they were wealthy, my brother is incommunicado...yada yada yada. And I'm thinking there is at least one other, who has also lost his wife, these people are sick. Watch out for sensenywales4615 on over40andsingle.com

I left it there, but being bored one day decided to play & see how much would be asked for, sure enough after a couple more emails, they wanted $20,000 - I LMFAO to them in an email & again told them the pleasure I had nailing them!!! LMAO, ha-ha-ha!!!! Story getting old!!! Reporting to FBI. Senior- peoplemeet doesn't give a damn! They need to be done away with as well!!! Yahoo needs to be boycotted also for not requiring traceable clients - anybody can open a fictitious account! Maybe internet does need regs, would hate to see that tho'!!

All the love emails and im's were the same, I was a little suspicious but kept on trading emails and ims until he asked me to donate to an orphanage with him. When I told him no, he wasn't very happy. He still kept sending me emails, while I was busy researching his name and email. I stopped sending and answering his emails and he asked me why, and I told him I was researching him, and I haven't heard from him since. Ladies beware of Michael Assante his email is above. I'm sure he's changed both his name and email by now.

  39. No he has not - well he just dropped the 't' and he is now from Sydney Australia and temporarily in West Africa with his son whom he pulled out of school. He is still into children and donating time to orphans - which is what he says is his thing. Wife cheated and left him etc. Very similar and not very smart of him to maintain so much after being called. Oh and yes he is a Christian - listed on eHarmony.ca. That listing may have been removed by this. I made subtle mention of his name being familiar and queries about the exact nature of his work in Nigeria and he went silent.

  41. I can certainly sympathize with all these stories. I have ALMOST been scammed from several dating sites and several very "nice" men over the last few months. I am now having such fun stringing them along (while they are messing with me, they are leaving someone else alone!!) and I have even been sent jewlery and fruit baskets!!! (Could this be a reverse-scam?) I keep a draft email ready to send to the scammer when I am done playing with them! The email lists the red flags to look for when you think you are being scammed. One of my "would-be" scammers hinted (and then asked outright) for a $140 watch from Zappos. I bought it, had it shipped to my address, and then sent the EMPTY BOX to him in South Africa for his birthday!!!! I wish I could have seen his face when he opened that box.....Anyway, if you feel up to it, I would encourage you to PLAY with them for awhile....it's great entertainment and even my office enjoyed watching me accept gifts through them. You also need to report all scammers, but don't expect anything from the dating sites or from Yahoo.com; as they just don't care! We need to protect ourselves by being careful with our personal information.

  42. Never send money to any stranger. Use caution, and if it's a genuine person, they'd be as cautious as you are because even they do not want to be scammed. 'nuff said.

  43. I almost got scammed by a guy going by the name of eric bullard on the date site SeniorPeopleMeet.Claimed to be an an graduate of oxford. He has created his own website with someones stolen picture and a map to his business trying so hard to apprear real. Claims he went to oxford and and that he lost his parents and wife all in the same year. He says he is an only child, from Ireland coming to US at age 12 Claims he has one really bad relationship since. Finally found this site and he was looking for the woman to spend the rest of his life. My son check this out and unknown to me immediately went home and searched for him on the internet until he found him and the women he had scammed telling their stories. He immediatly called me to warn me. When I told this scammer he should stop doing this get a decent job do good instead of bad or he would have to be concerned as to where he would be spening eternity the actual scammer came on to to talk to me. He told me how much he hated what I had wrote to him he called me a coward and a dog which are the worst names to be called in these countries. He said I must be insane to speak to him of God word. That he would never ever forgive me and never message me ever again.I asked God what he wanted me to do. Never miss a chance to witness for me or to reach out to save a soul I answered all this hate spewed at me with scripture.Told him my God taught me always to forgive so I will I am not going to come after you.God created you and he loves you.All you have to do to asure you will get to heaven is confess you sins to the one true God and repent for your sins living your life for him for the rest of your life.I will pray blessings your way asking God to reach out to you if it be his will and make sure you get saved becoming that born again Christian that you claim to be.Signed off, feeling that he never got the chance to hurt me.The next day I find myself immobile with depression. So I tell myself get in touch with your real feelings. OK so I feel dissappointed, but it is more than that. I am grieving this man that doesn't exist like he really did like he died.I am missing him. But it is something even deeper than this , Oh, now I know I am a victim of severe abuse he has messed with heart and my mind and infliced great damage to me.I wonder how long it will take me to recover So I really warn you off all date sites because people like this have infiltrated them all. By the way I am fine now , it only took a few days to heal me because I cried out to Jesus for help and he immediatedly he started answering my prayer. and by the way my son said he could tell I was talking to more that one person probaley even women posing as men.One gets tired on the computer and another one takes his place. I found him on his website and thinking this proved him legiimate. That is why I trusted him, and fell victim to his attempt to scam me. Beware. It is easy to create a fake website.ericbullardsearching4love@gmail.com

  44. I had a man on OKCupid which goes by the screen name of singleelder1012 say he was a vetenarian in the Tampa bay area, before he asked for money, he had all the signs of being a scammer. "Fell in love" with me, sent me e-mails, text, phone calls. Then when we were supposed to meet up he had to go to Turkey all of a sudden to do business about a contract related to the "bird flu" research. I called him out on his scam and he got very defensive and then stopped calling...he is back on okcupid even after I reported that name, but his supposedly in California now. BEWARE ladies...his photos are cute too of the man he stole them from!!

  52. Hello... I want to report Glen Winter (glenwinter101@gmail.com) . He first contacted me on facebook and then suggested me to text him on hangouts. Soon after this he deleted me from his facebook messenger. He said he had closed his facebook account. I want to know the real man's name whose photos were stolen . He also appears on Instagram same name, but he only posted some photos, none of which belong to the current year. He uses lots of the texts that are mentioned above. He didn't ask me for money but he says he is so much in love with me??? he wants me to send him my home address so as to send me a surprise gift. It's about four months we are texting to each other. I blocked him as I suppose he is scammer. Thanks for the info you can give me about this guy.
